How to compress a PDF without losing quality
प्रकाशित 2026-11-08
A PDF full of scans or photos can reach tens of megabytes, and many email systems and upload forms reject anything over 10 or 25 MB. Compression can help, but the right level depends on what is inside your file.
Why PDFs are large
Text is tiny. Images are not. A scanned page is a full-page photo, so a 50-page scan can weigh more than a 500-page text document. Embedded fonts and unused objects add a little more.
Pick the right level
- Basic keeps everything and only trims structure. Savings are small but nothing changes visually.
- Strong re-renders pages as compressed images. It gives the best balance for scans and mixed documents.
- Extreme produces the smallest file with visibly lower quality. Use it when size matters more than looks.
Tips for better results
- Try Strong first and look at the preview before using Extreme.
- If your PDF is mostly text, Basic is usually enough. Strong turns text into an image and makes it non-selectable.
- Remove blank or unneeded pages first with Delete pages to save more.
Private by design
The compression runs locally in your browser. Your documents are never uploaded, which is important when you shrink contracts, medical letters or tax documents.
